Cary Magazine recently published the winners of their 2012 Maggy Awards, and several CBC entities factored big on the list. WRAL-TV, WRAL-FM and the Durham Bulls won slots in several key categories.
In the television category WRAL-TV once again had a clean sweep, including th new Maggy Award category for Best Local News Site.
“Our readers’ favorite go-to for quick and accurate info, WRAL.com offers email alerts on breaking news, live streaming of TV newscasts, a community calendar and more,” read the winning article.
WRAL-TV Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel also got some extra attention the opening article for the Media Category.
Fishel told Cary Magazine how he embraces the ever-changing advances in technology in his field.
“’ “I have to be honest — I’m a geek, and I am still fascinated with data, and the interpretation of it,’ he said. His recent foray into writing scripts that allow the team to display new types of data is particularly exciting. “
The magazine also quoted Fishel as saying, “’ Accurate weather forecasts are important 365 days a year, but it’s those days where lives are on the line that my job takes on a special meaning. … The bottom line is that you want to give your viewers the best chance of getting through a tornado, hurricane, etc. with their lives intact.”
