FOX 50 Wins FOX National Sales Contest

WRAZ-TV Account Executive Doug Dickman and FOX 50 were honored by FOX Affiliate Relations for the best Sales Success Story in the country for 2012 in the Social Media division. FOX chose the FOX 50 Lip Dub Project as the best sales success story nationwide.

“The client, Goodwill Community Foundation, sponsored the contest in 2011,” Dickman said. “They were so thrilled with the response, they didn’t hesitate to increase their investment and become the title sponsor in 2012.”

The Lip Dub Project combines lip synching with audio dubbing to make a music video, shot in one take with no edits. Schools in our viewing area were encouraged to produce lip dub videos and enter. FOX 50 gave a total of $17,500 to the winning schools.

“We launched The Lip Dub Project with a high-visibility spot in the Super Bowl,” said FOX 50 Local Sales Manager Niel Sollod who facilitated the sale. “Then we continued to support it with promos in popular musical-themed programs like American Idol and Glee. As a result, we received entries from 33 high schools, representing 18 of the 22 counties in our DMA. The project generated over a million page views, and nearly a quarter of a million votes.”

“This project took several years to develop and launch” said FOX 50 Vice President & General Manager Tommy Schenck, who also attended the Summit. “We had to get buy in from the local county school systems. Equally important, this was a total station effort and we are very proud of this national recognition by Fox” added Schenck.

The award was presented at the FOX Executive Sales Summit 2012 in Charlotte on Wednesday, June 27. FOX affiliates from all over the Southeast attended the event.

Representatives from the FOX Network Programming and Affiliate Marketing departments presented the network’s Primetime promotional strategies for the next year, and a look at what the next decade has in store for FOX Sports.

The event was capped off with video presentations of the top entries in the Sales Success Stories contest.

In addition to the FOX 50 winning entry, attendees saw the winners of the best sales promotions in the Prime and Sports categories.
