Cary Magazine recently published their 2013 list of Maggy Award Winners, which included several CBC divisions and personalities. The magazine began recognizing the Best of Western Wake in 2006. Readers nominate their favorites.
For the first time this year, those favorites were narrowed to a list of 10 in each category and readers again voted to narrow the list to the winners.
WRAL-TV once again swept the media category as the Best TV Station, the Best Local News Website and had multiple winners in the news anchor, sportscaster and meteorologist categories. WRAL-FM MIX 101.5 made the list multiple times as well as the Durham Bulls. And FOX 50 ranked as well.
Cary Magazine’s Nancy Pardue interviewed WRAL Morning Anchor Bill Leslie for a brief feature among the winners; he won the Best TV New Anchor Honors. Leslie, the only two time Peabody Award winner in N.C., shared that his most rewarding work was environmental reporting he did in the late 80’s and early 90’s which led to a “Congressional investigation and new Navy rules requiring recycling gear on ships” and “action in the NC General Assembly to prosecute people who pollute”.
