Two powerhouse news organizations, WRAL-TV and The Fayetteville Observer, are now working from the same newsroom to cover the city of Fayetteville, the military and surrounding counties.
WRAL-TV Vice President and General Manager Steven D. Hammel says, “As part of our expanded commitment to covering the military and Cumberland County, we’ve relocated our news bureau inside The Fayetteville Observer newsroom. The Observer has a long tradition of outstanding local coverage and we’re excited about growing a partnership with the newspaper that will benefit our viewers and their readers.”
The station has had a news bureau in downtown Fayetteville for decades. The new WRAL NEWS Fayetteville bureau debuts on television Friday, May 17, 2013.
“We are glad to welcome WRAL’s Fayetteville team into our newsroom,” Observer executive editor Michael Adams said. “We look forward to opportunities for collaboration that use the unique skills of both organizations.”
The Fayetteville Observer, North Carolina’s oldest newspaper, is the largest family-owned newspaper in North Carolina. The Observer covers Fayetteville, Fort Bragg and nine surrounding counties.
With a newsroom of 65 people, the Observer provides comprehensive reporting on issues of local interest and national significance through the newspaper, niche publications and its online site at fayobserver.com.
