Station Wins Every Newscast, Sign On To Sign Off
|
The Nielsen May ratings period shows a clear winner in the nation’s 24th largest market. WRAL is, again, the most watched station, winning every newscast early morning through late news, weekdays and weekends. WRAL is the most watched station sign on to sign off and the market’s undisputed leader in local news.
WRAL posted year-to-year growth and is the most watched weekday Morning News from 4:30-7:00, beating the closest competition by +11%.
“We’re particularly proud of our Morning News,” says Vice President and General Manager Steven D. Hammel. “Viewers in this market are clearly choosing WRAL for their news, weather and traffic in the mornings. Our viewers are telling us they value what we value, breaking news coverage that never forgets the person behind the story, outstanding and accurate weather coverage from a veteran meteorologist who uniquely knows this market, and clear, useful, up-to-the-minute traffic.”
WRAL is the most watched Early Evening News, delivering over 25,000 more households than the second place station at 5:00, and over 20,000 more households at 5:30. WRAL News @ 6:00 remains the highest rated newscast in the market, delivering more households than the second and third place stations combined.
WRAL News Director Rick Gall says, “We’re proud of our legacy of local news leadership, and we never rest on it. Every day, we aggressively pursue breaking news and provide in-depth coverage of issues. We also look for opportunities to make a difference. In May, our investigative story on a possible cancer cluster in Wake County prompted the state to further review the cases. We told a powerful domestic violence survival story and offered help by bringing Interact volunteers into our studios for a 2-hour phone bank. We sent anchor/reporter Jackie Hyland to cover North Carolina relief efforts in Oklahoma. People count on us to never stop pushing for coverage that matters.”
WRAL and sister station FOX 50 also sweep late news. WRAL News on FOX 50 is the number one 10:00pm News, more than doubling the number of households of the second place station. WRAL News @ 11:00 Monday through Sunday delivers over 17,000 more households than the second place station.
WRAL News is the top choice on the weekends as well, dominantly winning morning, early evening, and late news.
