As the Bulls 2013 regular season winds down, the team has already earned the International League’s South Division Title and is looking towards the Governor’s Cup Playoffs. The season end is also a time for award presentations. Bulls’ Pitcher J.D. Martin is the league’s Pitcher of the Year, and Bulls skipper Charlie Montoyo clinched the Manager of the Year honors. The Bulls also presented their annual Goodmon Awards at the final home game of the regular season.
“This may be the best team in the 111-year-history of the Durham Bulls franchise. To say that, a lot of guys need to be having career seasons and that’s certainly the case,” said DBBC Director of Marketing Scott Carter. “For Charlie Montoyo (Manager of the Year) and J.D. Martin (Most Valuable Pitcher) to be recognized with these major postseason awards, it goes to show just how dominant the Bulls have been in 2013. They’re ready for the playoffs and so are we.”
Martin and Montoyo won their top honors selected by the International League’s managers, coaches, media and club representatives. The IL has also named the Bulls’ Vince Belnome their Postseason All-Star Team, and the Bulls’ earned a berth as the league’s top utility player.
