“We can do anything we want if we work together.” – CBC President & CEO Jim Goodmon
Leadership Triangle honored several individuals and organizations for their regional efforts at the annual Goodmon Awards Gala at American Tobacco in Durham on Monday, December 9, 2013. The 6pm event took place in the newly remodeled Bay 7 with catering by the Angus Barn.
Named for CBC President & CEO Jim Goodmon, the Goodmon Awards celebrate outstanding, regionally-minded Triangle leaders and organizations, in five categories.
“The Triangle is now the 25th television market,” Goodmon told the crowd. “Raleigh is not 24th, Durham is not 24th, Chapel Hill is not 24th. It’s all of us together. So we’ve got to pull together as a region. We can do anything we want if we work together.”
Honorees included:
- Strategic Partnership – Barker French, Board Chair and Co-Founder of East Durham Children’s Initiative
- Economic Development – Carol Peppe Hewitt, Director – Slow Money NC
- Community Service – Kevin Trapani, President – Redwoods Group
- Regional Leadership in Arts – Paperhand Puppet Intervention
- Goodmon Fellow – Atrayus Goode
Near the conclusion of the Goodmon Awards, Leadership Triangle President Winkie La Force announced the induction of a second member to the Leadership Triangle Hall of Fame, created last December. The organization posthumously inducted Doris Barksdale, motivational consultant and community relations liaison for the Carolina Hurricanes. Barksdale also spent time mentoring and coaching for Leadership Triangle. A beloved figure, she passed away on April 3, 2013, at the age of 77. Barksdale’s son, Rob Douglas, accepted the honor in memory of his mother.
WRAL-TV Anchors Debra Morgan and Ken Smith co-hosted the evening’s festivities, which included dinner, the awards ceremony and a live auction to benefit Leadership Triangle.
The Carolina Hurricanes served as presenting sponsor of the 2013 Goodmon Awards. Several CBC entities served as Goodmon Awards event and annual sponsors of Leadership Triangle including American Tobacco, Capitol Broadcasting, and FOX 50.
