Join MIX 101.5 for our annual BackPack Buddies Food Drive for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Food and monetary donations will be accepted from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm at:
- Brier Creek Commons (in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods) and
- Crossroads Plaza (in front of Old Navy).
In 2013, MIX 101.5 was able to raise $105,000 for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s BackPack Buddies program thanks to the generosity of our listeners and sponsors!
One child in every four in North Carolina is at risk of hunger and doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from. Over 116,000 children in the greater Triangle area applied for free or reduced price meals at school. That’s over 43%. These children often have little or no food when they are at home on the weekends.
The BackPack Buddies Programs serves children from food-insecure homes with weekend meals during the school year. BackPack Buddies helps the neediest kids who are enrolled in free and reduced-price lunches at school. Children are identified as “in need” by school principals, guidance counselors, and various after school programs. The children receive a backpack containing six balanced meals and two healthy snacks at the end of every week, about 12 pounds of food.
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is a hunger relief organization serving seven counties in and around the Triangle, where we (they) feed, teach and grow to create a hunger-free and healthy community.
Thanks to WRAL-FM’s Jenny Clements for this capcom scoop.
