South Division Champions Return Home Sunday with Chance to Break All-Time Paid Attendance Mark
After clinching their seventh division title in eight years earlier this week, the defending International League Champion Durham Bulls will return to the DBAP this weekend to wrap up the final home stretch of an extraordinary season. After a quick two-game set with the Norfolk Tides to conclude the regular season, the Bulls will host the Columbus Clippers on Friday, September 5 for Game Three of the Governors’ Cup Playoffs’ opening round.
When the Bulls return to Downtown Durham on Sunday, they will do so closing in on the 112-year-old franchise’s all-time paid attendance record. Through last homestand, the DBAP has welcomed a cumulative paid attendance of 514,095 in 2014. That total is just 6,857 shy of the team’s high water mark of 520,952, set in 2007. The Bulls could break the attendance record this Sunday, despite having lost two games to rain (there were no rain outs in 2007) and not counting sell-out attendance totals for this year’s Triple-A All-Star Game and Home Run Derby exhibitions.
The last homestand of the regular season, a two-game set against the Norfolk Tides, gets underway on Sunday, August 31 with a 5:05 p.m. game presented by Kellogg’s Snacks. Following Sunday’s game, Kids Run the Bases one last time thanks to Nature’s Twist. The 2014 regular season finale takes place on Monday, September 1 with a special Labor Day matinee that begins at 1:05 p.m. The Diamond Cutters dancing grounds crew, who have garnered national attention (including an appearance on Good Morning America) with their performance of Taylor Swift’s hit song “Shake It Off,” will perform both games of the homestand.
With the regular season then in the books, the Bulls will make a familiar trip back to the postseason. After opening the First Round of the 2014 Governors’ Cup Playoffs with two games in Columbus, the IL South Division Champs host Game Three of the Best-of-Five series at the DBAP on Friday, September 5. Following the 7:05 p.m. game presented by Gerber Collision and Glass, fans will be treated to a massive Friday Night Fireworks show thanks to Duke Energy. The DBAP would also host Games Four and Five of the series if necessary, on September 6th and 7th respectively.
Tickets for the final week of games at Durham Bulls Athletic Park are available now at the box office, by phone at 919.956.BULL or online at durhambulls.com. Season ticket and mini plan packages for the 2015 season are also available now.
