CBC President & CEO Jim Goodmon receives the 2014 Terry Sanford Citizen of the Year Award from the Boy Scouts of America’s Occoneechee Council.

Capitol Broadcasting Company CEO and President Jim Goodmon was honored Thursday night, October 2nd with the 2014 Terry Sanford Citizen of the Year Award from the Boy Scouts of America’s Occoneechee Council.

Goodmon and then-WRAL-TV engineer Powell Kidd chartered the Boy Scouts’ Explorer Post 5 in 1969 to introduce high school students to the skills needed for a career in broadcast media. Post 5 is the second oldest Explorer Post in the country and the oldest one dedicated to communication. CBC has since added Post 50, whose members produce the televised games for the Durham Bulls, available over the air on and on Time Warner Cable.

The award is named after the former North Carolina governor, U.S. Senator and Eagle Scout. The award ceremony and dinner were held at the Washington Duke Inn.
