The Carolina Hurricanes and Capitol Broadcasting Company reached a multi-year agreement Monday, July 13, 2015, ensuring 99.9 The Fan remains the flagship station for the team.
As part of the deal, 99.9 The Fan will continue to carry play-by-play calls of Hurricanes games through the 2019-20 season. The station, which has carried Canes games since 2007, also will continue to produce its popular pre- and post-game shows, Stormfront and Aftermath, surrounding each game.
Chuck Kaiton, who has been with the Hartford Whalers/Hurricanes franchise since 1979, will continue his duties as the play-by-play voice on the radio. Mike Maniscalco will continue as the host of the pre- and post-game shows.
Capitol Broadcasting is the parent company of both 99.9 The Fan and WRAL.
“Capitol Broadcasting sets the standard for media in the Triangle area, and has always been a good friend of our team,” said Hurricanes President Don Waddell. “We are pleased to have reached an agreement to keep 99.9 FM The Fan the radio home of the Hurricanes.”
“Our stations strive to bring fans the best in sports radio, and that starts with in-depth coverage of the market’s only major-league franchise,” said Dennis Glasgow, operations manager/program director for 99.9 FM The Fan. “Capitol Broadcasting is committed to this relationship with the Hurricanes, and will continue to provide hockey fans with engaging content on TV, online and, of course, on the radio.”
The Hurricanes begin the 2015-16 regular season at Nashville on Oct. 8, and will play their home opener against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, Oct. 10, at PNC Arena.
