Friday and Saturday Night Fireworks, Wool E. Bull’s Birthday Also Part of Big Weekend Series
Several historic events will accompany the Durham Bulls’ home stand, a four-game series against the Rochester Red Wings starting Thursday, May 19. Former Bulls skipper Charlie Montoyo will be inducted into the International League Hall of Fame and the Bulls will debut a new tribute uniform. Fireworks and Wool E. Bull’s birthday will cap off the four days of fun.
Prior to the Thursday, May 19th game during an on-field ceremony, former Bulls manager Charlie Montoyo will be inducted into the IL Hall of Fame. Currently the third base coach for the Tampa Bay Rays, Montoyo spent eight seasons as Durham’s skipper, compiling a franchise-record 633 victories, and leading the team to a Triple-A National Championship, two IL Governors’ Cup titles and seven IL South Division crowns.
Durham will debut its new Bull City Blues uniforms on Saturday, May 21. The uniforms, which are a tribute to the past, present and future of the City of Durham, will be worn on all remaining Saturday home games throughout the season. Immediately following Saturday’s game will be a performance by the Long Haul Bombers, who have dazzled DBAP crowds each of the last two seasons with memorable home run hitting performances. The Bombers, members of the Amateur Softball Association, will precede the first Saturday night fireworks show of the year, presented by JT’s Landscaping. That night’s 6:35 p.m. contest is presented by Michael & Son.
The Bulls will celebrate Wool E. Bull’s birthday at the final game in the series against the Red Wings on Sunday, May 22 at 5:05 p.m. Mascots from around the state will join Minor League Baseball’s most famous mascot for a celebration. Sunday’s game is the season’s last Bully Busters Recognition Night of 2016, sponsored by ARS Rescue Rooter, in which students who received vouchers for taking the Bully Buster pledge can redeem those vouchers for tickets.
