CBC President & CEO Jim Goodmon recently received notice he has been selected to receive the Boy Scouts’ highest local honor. Several board members of the Boys Scouts of American Occoneechee Council, along with the CEO John Akerman, stopped by WRAL-TV on Thursday, August 4, 2016, to share the good news with Goodmon and to thank him for his contributions.

“We’re thrilled to announce Jim Goodmon will be honored with the North Carolina ‘Good Scout’ Lifetime Award,” said BSA Occoneechee Council Development Director Shaun Olynick.  “This award is presented annually by the Occoneechee Council to an extraordinary community leader who exemplifies the precepts found in the Scout Oath and Law in recognition of their outstanding contributions to improve the quality of life in our state.”

The award is the highest local honor presented by the Boy Scouts.

Goodmon and Capitol Broadcasting have been long-time supporters of the Boy Scouts through Explorer Post 5 and Explorer Post 50, which are members of the Learning for Life program, a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America and associated with the Occoneechee Council of Boy Scouts in Raleigh. Youth between the ages of 14-20 are eligible to participate in Post 5 and Post 50 to learn about broadcasting.

The Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts will present the award to Goodmon at the 2017 Friends of Scouting Breakfast on March 3, 2017.

The group of board members and Akerman presented Goodmon with one of their inaugural President’s Circle ties, given to their top donors, on their visit to the station.  The custom red, white and blue ties complimented the patriotic theme of the Occoneechee Council’s awards breakfast earlier this year.  They also shared mock ups of next year’s tie with Goodmon.  The ties will be inspired by the Durham Bulls and baseball in honor of Goodmon.

Previous recipients of the North Carolina “Good Scout” Lifetime Achievement Award include James Maynard (2016) and Van Eure (2015).
