North Carolina’s #1 read gardening magazine Triangle Gardner recently did a podcast featuring the thriving agriculture scene in the heart of downtown Durham. Lise Jenkins, Host and Producer of the Triangle Gardner podcast, talked to Leigh-Kathryn Bonner of Bee Downtown. Bonner sprouted her start-up at American Tobacco, where she placed her first urban beehives on the roof. Bonner and Bee Downtown are also responsible for the four beehives on the roof at CBC’s headquarters in Raleigh.
In the segment, Jenkins talks to Bonner about Bee Downtown and also takes a tour of the clear observation hive at Burts Bee’s headquarters on the American Tobacco campus.
“There’s a real history to this place,” Burt’s Bees Director of Sustainable Business Paula Alexander tells Jenkins during the tour. “Tobacco and agriculture was such a huge part of North Carolina and a natural personal care products company just makes sense that we’ve come to this location.”
