WRAL-TV Honored with 2016 RTDNAC and AP Awards, Includes Best Website, News Producer, Anchor Team & Reporter

WRAL-TV at RTDNAC/AP Awards luncheon
WRAL-TV staffers celebrate their many awards at the RTDNAC/AP Awards luncheon at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday, November 12, 2016.

WRAL-TV won eight first place awards at the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC) and the Associated Press (AP) 2016 awards luncheon on Saturday, November 12, 2016. WRAL-TV brought home 13 total awards, the most of any large market TV station in the Carolinas.

The RTDNAC and AP awards competition recognizes the best of TV, radio, website and collegiate work.  The 2016 event took place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.  A number of WRAL staffers were on hand to represent the station.

And the WRAL-TV winners are:

FIRST PLACE AP AWARDS

  • Best Newscast (North Carolina) – WRAL – Pope’s Historic Visit – Kimberly Ursich, John Renigar

FIRST PLACE RTDNAC AWARDS

  • News Documentary – WRAL – Inside Cuba – Leyla Santiago, Zac Gooch, Rick Gall, Aysu Basaran, Natalie Matthews
  • News Website  – WRAL – WRAL.com
  • Original Web Reporting  – WRAL – After Inflation, N.C. Teacher Pay Has Dropped 13% in Past 15 Years – Kelly Hinchcliffe, Valerie Aguirre, Clay Johnson, Jay Jennings
  • Series  – WRAL – Being Transgender – Amanda Lamb, Chad Flowers
  • TV News Anchor Team of the Year  – WRAL – David Crabtree and Debra Morgan
  • TV News Producer of the Year  – WRAL – Kimberly Ursich
  • TV News Reporter of the Year  – WRAL – Julia Sims

  • Outstanding News Operation (North Carolina) – WRAL-TV
  • Public Service (North Carolina) – WRAL – Faith Fear Freedom – Waliya Lari, David Crabtree, Dave Henderson, Jodi Leese Glusco
