Students at Walnut Creek Elementary School in Raleigh received a surprise recently when reporter Brian Shrader and meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner showed up on campus to help them with their newscast.

Every day around 9 a.m., the Wake County youngsters deliver news to their fellow students, like what’s for lunch (mini corn dog nuggets) and what’s going on around school. During their visit, Brian and Elizabeth offered the kids some pointers, and the kids did the same!

“Once you get used to it and start doing it a lot, you kinda get used to it,” said Sanae Kellis-Smith, a student in the Walnut Creek newsroom. “That nervous feeling leaves your system and you get more confident about going on the morning news.”
