Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc. President Jimmy Goodmon today announced that Joel Davis has been named Vice President and General Manager of WRAL-TV and WRAZ-TV/FOX 50. The appointment is effective July 16, 2018.
Davis comes to WRAL/WRAZ from San Diego, where he served as Vice President and General Manager of KGTV-TV, the ABC affiliate in the nation’s 28th largest DMA. During his nine-year tenure, Davis rose through the ranks from News Director to General Manager while spearheading the rejuvenation of KGTV’s news products across all dayparts and platforms. Under his watch, the station has enjoyed year-over-year ratings and revenue share increases while chalking up some 59 Emmy Awards, including Newscast Excellence Emmys the past 8 years. Davis serves on the Board of Directors for the California Broadcasters Association, LEAD San Diego, the YMCA of San Diego County, and the March of Dimes. He is also on the Greenlee Advisory Council for the Iowa State University School of Journalism.

Davis began his broadcasting career as a reporter and news anchor at stations in Iowa and Ohio. He served as News Director at KBAK-TV and KFSN-TV in California before being named Managing Editor at WFTV-TV in Orlando. Davis joined KGTV as News Director in 2009 and was promoted to Station Manager and then Vice President/General Manager.

Davis is a graduate of Iowa State University. He and his wife Sarah have two college-aged children, Luke and Olivia.
