The WRAL Travel Store at RDU is open! It will be easy for travelers to find the trademark WRAL “5” gracing the exterior of the new store near Gate 6 in Terminal 2.
While the store is active and ready to offer visitors a cold beverage or bestseller, the official grand opening will be sometime this summer.
WRAL-TV has partnered with the airport concessioner company Paradies Lagardère and is also working with the Raleigh–Durham International Airport on a ribbon-cutting event for the new WRAL store, tentatively scheduled for August.
The store was the brainchild of WRAL-TV Station Manager Jim Rothschild, who retired in April, and many people worked on executing the “WRAL vision” along the way including artist WRAL-TV Lead Designer, Print & Online Bill Burch and brand champion, CBC Audience Development General Manager Shelly Leslie.
The store will sell traditional travel goods: snacks, head pillows, books and magazines, although there is potential for some WRAL branded merchandise in the future.
The WRAL Travel Store is part of many new offerings at RDU, including a new Whiskey River Restaurant, which was officially unveiled on Monday, June 4, 2018, by none other than Dale Earnhardt Jr. The restaurant is officially WRAL’s “neighbor” as they are nearby in terminal 2, near Gate D-14.
