2018 BackPack Buddies Mediathon
With one hour left for the 2018 BackPack Buddies Mediathon, MIX 101.5 reported having collected 3,000 pounds of food at Food Lion and made pleas to finish filling this Sysco Raleigh truck and help fight child hunger by the end of the day, Wednesday, July 18, 2018.

MIX 101.5 and WRAL-TV helped feed hungry kids in the Triangle thanks to generous listeners and viewers through the 3rd Annual Mediathon for BackPack Buddies.  The 2018 daylong event took place on Wednesday, July 18, and to date has raised $193,500 for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, with online and text donations continuing to come in.  Trucks were filled with two tons of non-perishable food donated at Food Lion stores in Wake and Durham counties, with the lion’s share of that amount being collected at the Lake Boone Trail location where MIX 101.5 staffers spent the event.

WRAL-TV made pitches live on air during the day’s newscasts, as well as two half-hour specials at 1pm and 7pm.  Volunteers filled Studio A, manning the phone bank to accept donations.

“We had a great day!” said WRAL-FM Promotions Director Jason Newton.  “We had the entire team at one location this year and it was great to see everyone jumping in to help collect/broadcast/shake hands and show gratitude towards those who gave.  I’m proud to be part of the team and we’re ready to do it again next year!”

The funds and food contributions will help the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle provide healthy, nutritious food to Triangle kids in need through the BackPack Buddies program.

Thanks to all contributed!
