NMG Ad Operations Manager Missy Justice became the latest CBC employee to join the rank of Leadership Triangle Goodmon Fellows on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.  She graduated from the Regional Program at a morning ceremony during the THRIVE Leadership Summit held in American Tobacco’s Bay 7.

“I decided to do LT mainly because I wanted to branch out of my comfort zone,” said Justice.  “Do something to inspire me as well as put me in front of the right people!”

Throughout the course of the four-month program, participants learn about issues that face the Triangle, paying visits to a variety of locations.

“My hands down favorite day was when we went to the goat farm,” explained Justice.  “It was our last class, so it was a bit bittersweet.”

She shared about the day:

We went to Celebrity Dairy in Siler City, NC. My favorite moment happened on this day. Larry Petrovick was our “host” for the day and he had us do an exercise – it might sound silly, but I highly recommend it. We went outside for 20 minutes with a pen and paper. No cell phones (very important). We were not allowed to talk to anyone for 20 whole minutes. All we were tasked to do was to just ‘be’. Walk around, sit down whatever you wanted and jot down words or phrases that come to mind when you look at nature, or hear things, or even internally what you’re thinking about. This was super profound to me. Such a simple task, but I learned a lot about myself in those 20 minutes. Something as small as a bird co-mingling with a cow in a field felt huge. I really was able to connect that moment to a real life situation. After our 20 minutes was up, we shared as a group. Which was even more profound, hearing other people’s interpretations and feeling moved by our group. We got super emotional. It was a breath of fresh air.

NMG’s Missy Justice enjoys her favorite day of her Leadership Triangle Regional Program, their last class which took place at Celebrity Dairy in Siler City, NC. She loved visiting with the goats.

Justice said she formed a tight bond with her class.  In fact, the participants in the 2019 spring program are already planning other events to continue connecting.

“We truly feel like a family,” she said.  “It has been a fabulous experience.”

When asked if she would recommend the program to others, Justice did not hesitate to say, “100%.”

“Not only for the amazing speakers and information you will gather over the months, but for the companionship, friendships and networking you can do along the way,” she explained.  “This program was extremely inspiring, I left every class thinking of new ways I can help our community.

She graduated from the program inspired and ready to make a difference in the Triangle.

“There has been so much going through my head after completing this program and trying to nail down something I am super passionate about to get involved with,” she concluded.  “I know I WANT to, and I know I NEED to… but there are just so many causes worth supporting and getting involved with it is hard to choose!”

Leadership Triangle is now accepting applications for the 2019 Transforming Leaders Program that will take place this fall.
