99.9 The Fan and 620 The Buzz hosted the 5th Annual Sports Radio Open on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the River Ridge Golf Club in Raleigh. The foursomes teed off with a shot-gun start at 9am.
“The event went very well!” said 99.9 The Fan Promotions Director Justina Duffin, who coordinated the Open for the third time this year. “It was another hot one but the rain held off so everyone was happy.”
The fun began the night before with a Pairings Party at the Raleigh Beer Garden.
The 18-hole tournament benefited the Helene Foundation, a local non-profit that “provides immediate support to mothers fighting cancer to positively impact families.”
“We raised $3,000 for the Helene Foundation that day which is just AMAZING!” said Duffin of the 2019 Sports Radio Open.
The day included breakfast provided by Duck Donuts, golf and lunch by Raleigh Beer Garden complete with awards presentation. Besides golfing prizes, a Silent Auction took place throughout the day as well as a 50/50 Raffle. A Putt Off took place before the tournament. All money raised goes to the Helene Foundation.
The Sports Shop and 99.9 The Fan Sports Hosts Adam Gold & Joe Ovies broadcast live on location from the Open.
“It’s fun to see listeners who golf year after year and those that it was their first time golfing with us,” said Duffin. “I think it’s an overall fun day out of the office for both the Sports Radio staff, our sponsors, and all of our golfers.”
Duffin had a great time at the event, although it was bittersweet. At the end of June she and her husband will be leaving the Triangle to move back to her home state of Wisconsin.
“This year especially was a special tournament for me with it being my last event with 99.9 The Fan,” she said.
