CBC will light the WRAL-TV tower for the 61st time on Monday, December 2, 2019. A special will air at 7pm to celebrate the lighting of the 300-foot tower to light Santa’s way to Raleigh for the holiday season.
The special will feature fantastic entertainment including a performance by North Carolina native Britton Buchanan from The Voice, also from The Voice, Calvin Lockett who just wrapped up a run on this season’s show, and UNC’s Harmonyx, a fantastic a cappella group!
A look back at the origins of the tower lighting tradition will follow. We’ll revisit some of the most memorable moments in tower lighting history – a silly Scrooge, the first aerial view of the tower and more. The evening will culminate in the lighting of the 2,800 colorful bulbs that adorn the 300-foot TV tower about 7:20pm.

American Tobacco Lucky Strike Tower Lighting
The Lucky Strike Tower at American Tobacco will come aglow on Friday, December 6, 2019. Sensational community choral groups and other entertainment surprises will join Santa for the big event.
At the conclusion of the 15th Annual American Tobacco Tower Lighting, the crowd can head out to Blackwell Street where Durham’s Oxente {Oh-SHEN-TAY] drummers and the humongous puppets of Paperhand Puppet Intervention will guide you up to the CCB Plaza lighting where festivities will continue.

Rocky Mount Mills Tower
Rocky Mount Mills will count down to the start of the holidays with WRAL-TV Anchor/Reporter Jeff Hogan on Saturday, December 7, 2019. The 2nd Annual Rocky Mount Mills Tower Lighting Celebration will feature horse and carriage rides around campus from 5-8pm. The actual Tower Lighting Event with local school bands, choral performances and dance groups will take place from 6:00-6:45pm. Get your photo made with Santa after the tower lighting and enjoy music by Stray Local in the Beer Garden from 6:45-8:00pm.
To mark the occasion, all five of the breweries at Rocky Mount Mills collaborated on a special ‘festbier’ that will be released and served as part of the evening festivities. ‘Tower Lighting Lager’ is an amber beer brewed in the German ‘Festbier/Maerzen’ tradition that’s designed to please a crowd.
