“Even in the midst of a pandemic, CBC continues to show up strong to support the people of our community hurting the most.”

Capitol Broadcasting has been honored with a 2020 Spirit of NC Courageous Community Response Award in the “Extraordinary and Courageous Community Response Amid COVID-19” category. The United Way of North Carolina presented statewide awards to companies and organizations “that have gone above and beyond in supporting long-term solutions in their communities.” CBC received the honor during a virtual celebration on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 1pm.
The United Way’s annual Spirit of North Carolina award honors North Carolina-based companies and organizations committed to building a community-wide culture of philanthropy.
CBC was recognized for the telethon WRAL-TV held to raise funds for the United Way of the Greater Triangle’s Rapid Response Fund, an effort the United Way called “extraordinary” during the presentation.
“Even in the midst of a pandemic, CBC continues to show up strong to support the people of our community hurting the most,” said Corp/WRAL-TV Community Relations Director Loretta Harper-Arnold. “From WRAL’s ‘Help the Helpers’ COVID-19 relief fundraiser to employee donations given during our annual workplace campaign, this well-deserved recognition belongs entirely to the people of CBC.”
Joe Barnes, Campaign Division Director at United Way of Greater High Point, made the presentation.
“United Way of the Greater Triangle launched its Rapid Response Fund in March 2020 in direct response to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our neighbors needed support from local nonprofits that were suddenly overwhelmed by requests for help,” explains Eric Guckian, United Way of the Greater Triangle’s President and CEO. “Capitol Broadcasting Company jumped in head first and arranged an entirely virtual telethon that took our fundraising efforts further than we could have ever imagined. It’s thanks to their support that we were able to raise more than $1.6 million and distribute more than $1.4 million to 104 nonprofit organizations across the Triangle in just a few months. We are eternally
grateful.”
CBC was joined by Truist Bank in being honored as a 2020 Spirit of NC Courageous Community Response Winner from the UWGT. The six award winners from other parts of the state include Caterpillar, Coastal
Credit Union, Deloitte, Duke Energy, EY, and First Citizens Bank.
