The 2020 Tokyo Olympics are in full swing and WRAL-TV is your place to catch the Games, and stories about local athletes and much more.  WRAL-TV Director of New Operations, Sports & Special Projects Leesa Moore gave Capcom a behind-the-scenes look on the nightly half-hour special The Olympic Zone, a program she knows well as she is the Project Coordinator:

The Olympic Zone is a magazine program that leads into WRAL’s primetime coverage of the Olympic Games.  It offers insight into the sights and sounds of Tokyo, as well as the sports and athletes involved.  It’s content you really won’t get anywhere else.

And The Olympic Zone is fun to produce locally!  Using a virtual studio, two control rooms, two directors, a talented visual design director, and multiple support staff, we pull together an engaging and interactive presentation with augmented and virtual reality elements.

Our producer has to think outside the box of “news production” and incorporate topical AR/VR graphics that supplement the unique content in each special.

That’s 13 half-hour specials during the course of the Olympic Games that are the culmination of weeks of visualizing, planning, and rehearsing.  You can watch The Olympic Zone Monday through Saturday at 7:30PM only on WRAL.
