It’s time to Celebrate the Season with WRAL’s 63rd Annual Tower Lighting! Join CBC on Wednesday, December 1st, as we turn our 300-foot TV tower into North Carolina’s tallest lighted tree! But! That’s just part of the fun!
CBC will also light the towers at our sister properties at American Tobacco Campus in Durham and Rocky Mount Mills in Rocky Mount! To highlight these events, we will air a live half-hour special on WRAL-TV at 7PM as we begin our countdown to flipping the switches.
We will have fantastic entertainment including a performance by North Carolina native and recording artist Rory John Zak, music from bluesman and storyteller Randy McQuay, a cappella group Catch 22 and the Walltown Choral Group! Be sure to join Debra Morgan, David Crabtree, Lena Tillett and Gerald Owens Wednesday, December 1st at 7PM for our 63rd Annual WRAL Tower Lighting.

WRAL Tower lighting in Raleigh
Join Debra Morgan and David Crabtree for the annual WRAL Tower lighting right here at our news station in Raleigh! We will turn our 300 ft. TV tower into the area’s largest lighted tree for the 63rd year!
North Carolina country/pop musician Rory John Zak will perform live during the WRAL TV special. Rory grew up watching WRAL’s annual tower lighting and told his mom at a young age he would like to perform during the special event one day. Dreams do come true!
American Tobacco Water Tower lighting in Durham
Durham’s tower lighting ceremony will feature special appearances by Wool E. Bull, Rudolph, Frosty and Mr. & Mrs. Claus.
We’ll also have 2,000 light wands to distribute courtesy of our friends at Dominion Energy and NC 811.

Holiday tower lighting at Rocky Mount Mills
Rocky Mount Mills will host a festive night of live music, horse-drawn carriage rides and a storytime with Santa on Dec. 1 from 5-8 p.m.
Expect events full of holiday cheer like:
- North Carolina blues musician, storyteller and one-man band Randy McQuay
- Horse carriage rides through the festive mill campus
- Storytime at the coffee shop with Santa and Mrs. Clause
- Local breweries and restaurants planning holiday activities and cocktails
