The 42nd Annual Triangle MLK, Jr. Holiday Celebration on Monday, January 17, 2022
Watch on WRAL-TV at 8am, or Entire Program on WRAL.com Beginning 7am
The annual Triangle Martin Luther King, Jr. Interfaith Prayer Breakfast will once again be virtual this year, due to precautions regarding the pandemic. However, Capitol Broadcasting Company is happy to once again be the presenting sponsor for this important celebration on Monday, January 17, 2022.
The 42nd Annual Triangle Martin Luther King, Jr. Interfaith Prayer Breakfast will feature keynote speaker Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the 117th elected and consecrated bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She is the first female elected to episcopal office in the more than two-decades-old AME Church and is the first female to serve as President of the Council of Bishops and President of the General Board.
Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist, Durham’s own Nnenna Freelon will also perform as part of the breakfast.
“While diversity and inclusion are more mainstream concepts today, Dr. King had it figured out long ago — a just and equitable society for all was the only way we’d all rise together,” said Corp Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility Loretta Harper-Arnold. “Since 2013, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Triangle MLK Committee to plan events commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. King. But long before I joined this Committee, CBC was already a significant supporter to ensure the annual MLK Interfaith Prayer Breakfast remained free and open to the entire Triangle community. Because of 40+ years of partnership, the event’s reach has now grown from an in-person event with 2,000 attendees to being accessible on-air and online to expanded audiences beyond the Triangle.”
For health safety reasons, the breakfast will be virtual. On the positive side, that means more people across the region and state can attend. The 8am hour of the breakfast will be broadcast live on WRAL-TV. Or, for the entire program, visit WRAL.com starting at 7am.
Capitol Broadcasting Company has proudly sponsored the MLK day breakfast for the past 36 years. WRAL-TV and FOX 50 also serve as Media Partners for the event.
The 2022 MLK Day will be special for Capitol Broadcasting for another reason. For the first time this year, CBC will celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday as a companywide paid holiday.

About the Triangle Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee:
The Triangle Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee exists to educate the Triangle community by expanding upon the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Among the principles of Dr. King’s legacy are: respect, equality, opportunity, diversity and a commitment to peace, justice, and non-violent solutions to conflict. All of these principles at the heart of the civil rights movement are equally as relevant to our lives today as we seek to address and solve present-day social issues in our community.
It is the goal of the Triangle MLK Committee to organize, deliver and promote quality events and programming in the Triangle on the King national holiday, and expand the message of hope and healing in Dr. King’s philosophy through ongoing, community-engaging activities throughout the year.
