CBC Mourns Loss of Beloved WRAL-TV Employee Erin Simanskis

One of CBC’s own was seriously injured in a car accident on Friday night during the recent winter weather.  WRAL-TV Assignment Editor Erin Simanskis had a fender bender on Western Blvd will heading home from work.  She and the other involved driver were out of their vehicles, exchanging information when a third vehicle hit Erin, seriously injuring her.  She died of her injuries early Wednesday morning, January 26, 2022.  The CBC family is reeling from the sudden, tragic loss of a beloved colleague.

“Erin is one of the kindest, most thoughtful people I have ever known,” said Corp Director of Communications & Engagement Monica Laliberte, who worked with Simanskis for several years in WRAL-TV’s 5 On Your Side.  “As another colleague perfectly described her—she was ‘kindness personified.’ She was so incredibly friendly—it is remarkable how quickly she connected with not only newsroom employees, but also with so many in other parts of the company.”

Simanskis joined the CBC family in March 2017 as the WRAL-TV 5 On Your Side Researcher.  She was promoted to her current position of Weekend Assignment Editor in March 2019.
