WRAL’s Nights of Lights is a holiday gift that keeps on giving the whole year through. Not only did the community enjoy the actual light show last December, proceeds from the event helped support a couple of non-profits in the Triangle. Santa made a rare off-season appearance to accompany WRAL-TV Anchor Debra Morgan to make the special check presentations this spring.
The success of 2021 Nights of Lights made it possible for WRAL-TV and Capitol Broadcasting to present the Dix Park Conservancy with a $100,000 donation! Also, when purchasing tickets, attendees had the option to donate to the Interfaith Food Shuttle and many did, to the tune of almost $20,000!
On behalf of WRAL, Santa and Morgan rode in a horse-drawn sleigh to deliver the checks to both organizations. They arrived outside All Faiths Chapel on the Dix Park campus on Thursday, March 25, 2022.
Several WRAL-TV staffers represented the station at the presentation as well including WRAL-TV Vice President & General Manager Joel Davis, WRAL-TV Station Manager Heather Gray and members of the Creative Services team including John Gilliam, Merigrace Ramsey, Rachel Eggleston and IT staffer Nick King. Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin also came to join in the fun.
“Additionally, we gift tickets to more than 40 additional organizations and charities across the community each year, so the non-profit impact is significant,” explained Gray. “We even had one special ‘corporate takeover’ night last year where attendees donated to Coats for the Children.”
This year WRAL is working to have three non-profit options in ticketing, as well as having multiple corporate takeover events.
“Another new element of 2022 will include a promotional calendar for Nights of Lights, earmarking some nights as special non-profit fundraising nights,” said Gray. “Coats for the Children will be one of those!”
Capitol Broadcasting and WRAL-TV are happy to be able to serve our community in a growing myriad of ways with this family-friendly, fun holiday light show.
