“It is the full circle moments like this that show the importance of community partnership events for our station.”

WRAL-TV proudly returned as media sponsors for Susan G. Komen Triangle Race for the Cure after a 2-year pause for the event on Saturday, April 30, 2022. Team WRAL members ran and walked, celebrating survivors and raising funds to support those battling the disease. The in-person event took place in Research Triangle Park.
For several WRAL staffers the 2022 race was their debut to be able to work the station tent, greet viewers, walkers and runners, and support this great cause.
“This was my first year in-person at Komen Triangle Race for the Cure after a two-year virtual hiatus, and it was one of my favorite events to date!” said WRAL-TV Senior Promotion Operations & Event Coordinator Catherine Fitzhenry. “There were so many smiling faces early Saturday morning who were so excited to see and greet one another once again. From hearing the impactful survivors and fighters’ stories, to seeing everyone’s pink and unique outfits, it was all around a great morning for a great cause!”
A number of WRAL-TV employees both worked the event and ran or walked on Team WRAL. Retired WRAL-TV Vice President & General Manager Steve Hammel was the top fundraiser for the team, bringing in more than $1,000 which will go towards research for breast cancer.
Wool E Bull also attended, helping lead participants through a Zumba warm up.
“I am so proud that we have this continued partnership with Susan G Komen Race for the Cure,” said Fitzhenry. “So many participants came to our booth to check in with how we were all doing and to say they were happy to see us once again! It is the full circle moments like this that show the importance of community partnership events for our station.”
