“Breann has been a joy to work with – she’s very much like a duck, in that she’s very calm and collected but working fast and furiously underneath the surface. We’ve thrown very different types of asks her way, and she’s tackled each and every one!”
– WRAL Digital Director of Operations Laney Tipton, about Emerging Leaders Intern Breann Wyman
For the past 4 months, 10 students from NC Central University have been interning in Capitol Broadcasting divisions through the inaugural Emerging Leaders Program. A partnership between CBC and Leadership Triangle, the program combines hands on learning in departments aligned to their interests along with workshops led by LT coaches. The program will culminate with a graduation ceremony on December 16. In the final weeks leading up to that conclusion, Capcom is profiling the individual outstanding students.
Breann Wyman is interning with WRAL Digital, focusing on Client Success in the Sales Department. Davis is a senior at NC Central, pursuing a major in Public Health Education.
WRAL Digital Director of Operations Laney Tipton has been working with Wyman as her CBC mentor during the internship.
“Breann has been a joy to work with – she’s very much like a duck, in that she’s very calm and collected but working fast and furiously underneath the surface,” said Tipton. “We’ve thrown very different types of asks her way, and she’s tackled each and every one!”
The WRAL Digital Team has given Wyman a big range of tasks to tackle under the tutelage of various staffers. She is currently helping with the upcoming transition to Google Analytics 4.
“She has most recently been working with our team on GA4, and what the switch from Universal Analytics to GA4 will mean for clients,” said Tipton of Wyman. “She’s also worked on a huge task pulling talking points from a series of b-roll and videos to help formulate scripts, so she’s done a little of everything from project management to some creative assistance during her time with us.”
In addition to gaining mastery over hand-on tasks, Wyman is learning to roll with whatever comes up, dealing with the unexpected and unpredictable.
“Breann has had to ride alongside our team as we’ve gone through quite a bit of change over the last couple of months, but she’s taken it all in stride!” said Tipton.
Tipton believes this new partnership between Capitol Broadcasting and Leadership Triangle will set the participants like Wyman up for better success in their future careers.
“I think the Emerging Leaders Program is such a valuable asset for these students,” she said. “To be able to get real on the job training in a professional setting, plus the additional guidance and mentorship of Leadership Triangle, will set these students up ahead of their peers when they graduate and enter the workforce fully.”
