Five CBC Staffers Become Members
Two former CBC employees have helped make a connection between Capitol Broadcasting and a nonprofit organization known for being a voice and resource for women in the business of sports. CBC is now a corporate partner of Women in Sports & Events (WISE) Greater Raleigh.
Carolina Hurricanes Senior Manager for Corporate Partnership Services Morgan Weber, who previously worked at the Durham Bulls, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Principal Program Manager for Sports Marketing & Activation Kristi Butler, previously an employee for Wolfpack Sports Marketing, a former CBC division, both facilitated the connection. Weber is on the WISE board as finance chair, and Butler serves as the sponsorship chair.
“I was so happy (and quick) to reach out to Corp’s George Habel about getting CBC involved in WISE,” said Weber. “You see, I was part of the launch of the Capitol Women’s Network. I’ll never forget – George asked me into his office one day to talk about something he felt was important to him. To CBC. Being a champion for Women in Sports. It had a true impact on me!”
“I know Morgan and I both have strong personal connections to CBC and can attribute a lot of our early success due to our time with Capitol and the support provided to us as we were establishing our careers,” said Butler. “I joined the WISE board about a year ago shortly after Blue Cross NC decided to become a sponsor of the chapter. At Blue Cross NC, we have made strong investments focused on women’s sports and career development and felt like WISE was a natural fit in helping us continue to promote, encourage and network with many strong female sports and event professionals throughout the area.”
The Hurricanes are sponsors and have members as well.
Because CBC is a Community Sponsor, WISE Greater Raleigh is providing an opportunity for five CBC women employees to engage with other WISE members and sponsors, attend events and more. The CBC members are:
- Jennifer Grady, 99.9 The Fan Account Executive
- Brianna Fletcher, 99.9 The Fan Promotions Manager
- Shari Massengill, Holly Springs Salamanders General Manager
- Chrystal Rowe, Durham Bulls Asst General Manager, Sales and Marketing
- Sasha Moore, Durham Bulls Director of Special Events
“CBC has always been a strong corporate steward for females and professional development and with being rooted in the sports space (Durham Bulls, 99.9 The Fan, Wolfpack Sports Properties partnership and now the Coastal Plain League), WISE is a great opportunity for your current (and possibly future) employees in these areas to engage and network with like-minded female professionals,” said Butler.
The WISE mission is to “empower women in the business of sports with the tools to reach their career goals.” To that end WISE offers peer support, mentoring programs and professional development and training” for its members.
