The 3rd annual Big Night In for the Arts brought performances from a variety of local artists into the homes of Triangle viewers while raising a great deal of funding for the four area arts councils on Thursday, May 9, 2023. Capitol Broadcasting and WRAL-TV are proud of being part of the successful effort that has brought in nearly $170,000 so far!
“It was truly a pleasure to once again share the stories and capture the amazing performances of the artists bring joy to our community,” said WRAL-TV Local Production Manager Don Ursich.
This year’s event included recorded performances and interviews as well as a live song from Grammy-nominated country musician Rissi Palmer. For the first time Big Night In had an in-person Watch Party. Palmer and her band played live from the party at The Mayton in downtown Cary.
“Every year I’m amazed by the artists, musicians, and dancers that we (Steve Elizondo – WRAL Local Production Producer, and I) meet,” said Ursich. “Many familiar faces, others just artists getting off the ground.”

The hour-long broadcast both celebrated the featured artists as well as interviews from directors of the United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County, the Chatham Arts Council, the Durham Arts Council and the Orange County Arts Commission, all four of which received the proceeds of the program.
“What makes Big Night In so great is that it allows the WRAL viewers to discover how impactful and important local arts are to the Triangle,” said Ursich.
And viewers in turn contribute to help the arts continue to thrive in our area.
