“Shari is well respected throughout baseball and has a tireless work ethic. This award is so deserved as she has been breaking the glass ceiling in baseball for many years.”

The Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce recently presented Holly Springs Salamanders General Manager Shari Massengill the organization’s Glass Ceiling Award. Massengill received the honor at the Chamber’s 2023 Women’s Empowerment Conference on Tuesday, June 20.
“Shari was recognized for her outstanding achievements in an industry predominately run by men,” explained HSS Director of Ticket Sales Sara Killeen. “She was also acknowledged for running the first full female front office in the Coastal Plains League.”
Surprised by the award presentation, Massengill had no idea she had been in the running to be selected.
Of the honor, the Chamber said, “It is through empowerment that we can bridge the gaps, break down barriers, and foster a society where every woman can thrive and reach her full potential.”
Massengill joined the Salamanders as GM last spring. The 2023 season is her second with the ballclub.
“I have had the privilege of knowing Shari for many years when she worked for the Atlanta Braves Triple-A team,” said DBBC Vice President of Baseball Operations Mike Birling. “When the opportunity arose for us to hire her as GM of the Holly Springs Salamanders before the ’22 season we jumped at it.”
He is happy to see Massengill honored by the community.
“Shari is well respected throughout baseball and has a tireless work ethic,” he said. “This award is so deserved as she has been breaking the glass ceiling in baseball for many years.”
