The 38th annual Midsouth Regional Emmy Award winners were announced in Nashville on Feb. 17, 2024, and WRAL again came home with the top award. It marks the second year in a row that WRAL won for News Excellence.
“This remarkable run reflects the collective, amazing commitment and work of a great news team.” said News Director Rick Gall. “We have now won the marquee award in six straight regional competitions: 2 Emmys for News Excellence, 2 Murrows (the Edward R. Murrow Award) for Overall Excellence, and 2 RTDNAC (Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas) awards for Outstanding News Operation.”
This was News Excellence win No. 25 under Gall’s leadership.
In total, WRAL notched seven wins recognizing incredible work in daily news, WRAL’s documentary unit, weather, technical achievement and public affairs reporting. WRAL News was nominated in 23 categories, including breaking news, morning newscast and evening newscast.
