WRAL-FM Among Finalists for Prestigious National Community Service Award NAB Announces Crystal Award Finalists

On Monday, March 16, 2009, the National Association of Broadcasters announced the 50 finalists for the 2009 Crystal Awards competition, and WRAL-FM MIX 101.5 made the list. The Crystal Awards honor radio stations for outstanding year-round commitment to community service.
MIX recently completed its 15th annual Radiothon for the Children at Duke Hospital, a cornerstone of its yearly community service events. The station raised, $1,031,431 during the three-day event, bringing the 15-year total to $10,749,291.
MIX’s other major community service projects and organizations served include Komen NC Triangle, Toys for Tots, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle BackPack Buddies program, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, JDRF, Girls on the Run, and many more.
MIX 101.5 is the only radio station in the Triangle to make the list of Crystal Award finalists. Only two other North Carolina stations are in the top 20, WBT-AM in Charlotte, and WKML-FM in Fayetteville.
WRAL-FM won a Crystal Award in 1996 & 2001 and has been nominated five times previously, not including this present nomination.
WRAL-FM will be honored alongside the other finalists at the NAB Radio Luncheon during the 2009 NAB Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday, April 21st. The winners will be announced the luncheon event.
