DBAP To Host Food Bank of North Carolina Drive This Weekend
|
Fans interested in helping to support the Food Bank of North Carolina may bring food donations to the Durham Bulls games vs. the Norfolk Tides on Saturday, June 21st and Sunday June 22nd. Canisters will be positioned outside the box office for both games.
The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is a nonprofit organization that provides food for people who are at risk of hunger in 34 counties of central and eastern North Carolina. With branches in Durham, Greenville, Raleigh, Southern Pines and Wilmington, the Food Bank serves a network of nearly 900 partner agencies offering soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults.
In fiscal year 2006 – 2007, the Food Bank distributed more than 32.6 million pounds of food and non-food essentials to these agencies.
Sadly, hunger remains a serious problem in central and eastern North Carolina.
In these counties, more than 400,000 struggle each day to provide enough food for their families. Recent updates taken from the 2006 U. S. Census Estimates now place this number at 450,000 at risk of hunger.
