FOX Wins Big With Super Bowl XLII
|
Eli Manning and his Super Bowl winning teammates are having a great week, and so is the FOX network. The much-anticipated match-up between the undefeated New England Patriots and the underdog New York Giants brought in huge ratings.
Nationwide Super Bowl XLII did a 37.6 rating among Adults 18-49 with 97.5 million Total Viewers, making the broadcast the highest Super Bowl ever in Total Viewers and the highest in eight years in Adults 18-49.
In a nail-biter, the Giants won 17-14, ending the Patriot’s bid to become the second undefeated NFL team in history. The Miami Dolphins had a perfect season and Super Bowl win in 1972.
If that weren’t enough, Super Bowl XLII is the second-highest rated telecast of all time, beaten only by the series finale of MASH 25 years ago. A record-breaking 106 million viewers tuned in to that broadcast in 1983.
Locally the game delivered strong numbers for FOX 50 with a 40.8/58 Household Rating/Share.
The hit FOX series “House” pulled strong numbers following the Super Bowl, earning its highest numbers ever with 29.0 Million Total Viewers. “House” is FOX’s highest rated scripted series telecast in over 10 years in Adults 18-49.
The Super Bowl and “House” won FOX its highest-rated night ever in Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers. It was also “the highest-rated night on any broadcast network in at least 17 years,” according to Television Week.
Currently FOX is the No. 1 network for the season, up nine-tenths over its nearest competitor. And the blockbuster “American Idol,” which just begun its new season, is handily winning its time slots and reigning as the most watched show on TV.
The Super Bowl and the record-breaking original episode of “House” aired on FOX on Sunday, February 3, 2008.
