Survivor Fiji Memories Live on in Wilmington
|
The Wilmington crowd goes wild for Survivor Fiji finalist Dre “Dreamz” Herd. |
Wilmington native Dre Herd accomplished something no local had ever done before; he made it to the Finale of a reality show, Survivor Fiji. The crew of CBS 10 WILM teamed up with the local paper, The Star News, and a sports bar, the Fox and Hound, to make the Finale an experience more than 300 guests would never forget.
For those of you who did not watch Survivor or the Finale, Dre (a.k.a. Dreamz) faced the choice of keeping his word or reneging on a deal he made with another contestant. It was a choice that polarized the show’s fan base, but united those in attendance. When Dreamz decided to renege on his end of the bargain, the local crowd went crazy.
Dreamz had never before owned a car or held a driver’s license. Now, he was the owner of a 2008 Ford F350 and his crowd couldn’t have been more thrilled.
Dre went on to lose in the Finale, in large part due to his decision, but for those in attendance, Dre had already won. And the crowd was a winner as well. All night long, they ate free food, sipped on drink specials and many prizes were awarded (CBS 10 WILM gave away t-shirts, koozies, and prize packs).
Most of the audience left with a token of the event and the hope that sometime soon, another local will make a run at becoming a reality legend. Who knows when Wilmington will once again rally behind a local reality show contestant, but if it’s a CBS show, you better believe CBS 10 WILM will be throwing another bash.
