Bulls Fete Retiring PA Announcer Bill Law

A crowd of over 10,600 people packed the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Saturday, August 26th for the final weekend of Durham Bulls Baseball this season and a final good-bye to the man that has brought them Bulls baseball since 1995. Durham Bulls longtime Public Address Announcer, Bill Law, celebrated his 15-year career with the Bulls with a home run of a celebration.
The festivities kicked off just before game time when Durham City Councilman Eugene Brown presented Law with a proclamation from Mayor Bill Bell recognizing his impressive record of service with the Bulls and other sports, community and government agencies over the last 40 years. Law then took the mound to throw out his first ceremonial first pitch.
As the Bulls put together an impressive win against the first place Charlotte Knights, Law, his family and friends celebrated in the CBC Sky box. Close to 100 people stopped by to congratulate Bill and wish him well in his new role with the Bulls as team ambassador.

Following the game, Law was joined on the field by USA Baseball Marketing Director David Perkins, Baseball America Publisher Lee Folger, former Durham Bulls General Manager Al Mangum, Bulls Vice President George Habel and General Manager Mike Birling. Law was presented with several parting gifts, including a state award from the Governor of North Carolina, an authentic jersey from USA Baseball, the Durham Bulls Award of Excellence, a new team jacket, a trip for him and his wife to Boston to see the Red Sox play, and the announcement that the Public Address Booth at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park would be dedicated to him.
Law took the microphone to a standing ovation from the sold out crowd as he made this parting statement,
“This is not bad for a carpetbagger from Massachusetts. To all of you and the thousands who have had these same seats and those who have [attended] games for the last 12 seasons, I can only say thank you. You have made these the most unforgettable years of my life.”
