|
WRAL-TV’s Pops in the Park provides fun for the whole family on Labor Day weekend each year. |
Music lovers are once again invited to join WRAL-TV and the North Carolina Symphony for an evening of live entertainment and fun for the whole family! WRAL’s Pops in the Park will be held at Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park. This free concert is set to take place on Sunday, September 4, 2005 at 7pm, with gates opening at 4:30pm.
Conductor Laureate Gerhardt Zimmermann will lead the orchestra in George Gershwin’s Strike Up the Band Overture, John Williams’ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Suite and many popular works by guest artist and favorite Native Son, Mike Cross. As always, the concert ends with Tchaikovsky’s stirring 1812 Overture and John Philip Sousa’s patriotic crowd-pleaser, The Stars and Stripes Forever, complete with fireworks launched over Symphony Lake in Regency Park. WRAL morning news anchor Lynda Loveland hosts the program.

Patrons who arrive early can pick a prime spot from which to watch the concert, and also enjoy some bonus entertainment and activities. WRAL has once again partnered with the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County to present pre-show entertainment. These performances will be on stage 5-6:30pm before the big show and include Broadway singer Tina Seldin, Latin musical ensemble, Carnavalito, and gospel artist, Rozlyn Sorrell.
In addition to the on-stage performances, United Arts is also sponsoring an instrument “petting zoo” from 4:30-7pm featuring musical demonstrations and hands on activities for children and parents. This is the second year United Arts will collaborate with the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra to present this interactive activity for families.
Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and a picnic. Food will also be available at the Amphitheatre, as for all events. Pets are not allowed.
WRAL-TV will broadcast Pops in the Park on Monday, September 5 at 7pm. UNC-TV will broadcast the program on Monday, September 19 at 10pm.
