On Friday, April 15, 2005, MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM hosted “Free Gas Friday” giving over 300 Triangle listeners free gas. At 7:00am on Friday morning, Bill Jordan and Sheri Logan from “Bill and Sheri in the Morning” announced the three free gas locations: one in Durham, one in Cary and one in North Raleigh. The first 101 cars at each location received ten gallons of gas just for listening. Not only did the listeners get their tanks filled up, but they had a MIX staff member fill their tank of gas for them.

The “Free Gas Friday” idea came from listeners’ phone calls, venting their frustrations as gas prices continue to rise. MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM has held “Free Gas Friday” in the past, but never before with such an impact. With gas at an average cost of $2.23 per gallon in the Triangle, MIX 101.5 saved listeners more than $7000! That’s a lot of cash to put in listeners’ pockets.
