For the latest in WRAL-TV’s tour of counties in its viewing area, the station visited Wilson. The gathering took place on March 16, 2005, at Barton College, and the panel interview with a variety of Wilson citizens will air on WRAL on Friday, April 8th at 7:30pm.
Former WRAL-TV Reporter Brian Bowman, now Public Affairs & Marketing Manager for the town, helped his former colleagues line up a wide variety of locals for the discussion. A real estate investor, a farmer, an elementary school teacher, a member of the Wilson City Council, a member of the Wilson School Board, the President of Wilson Tech Community College, and the Editor of the Wilson Daily Times newspaper participated.
The major issues for Wilson, according to the panel, are the creation of more jobs to improve economic development, making sure all can earn a living wage, education and keeping kids from dropping out of high school. The panelists all like Wilson’s small town charm and see it as a great place to raise children.
The panel commented on a variety of other issues, all of which will be featured on the 30-minute program WRAL created from the discussion.
WRAL-TV Producer/Director Clarence Williams directed the taping and WRAL-TV Director of News Special Projects Leesa Moore-Craigie produced. WRAL-TV Director of Programming John Harris and WRAL-TV Senior Producer Phyllis Parish, both natives of Wilson, were on hand to represent the station, along with WRAL-TV Community Relations Director Loretta Harper-Arnold. And a crew of WRAL technicians were on hand to run the technical aspects of the event. Former WRAL-TV Anchor Charlie Gaddy served as host and moderator.
