The Durham Bulls announced Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia) radio announcer Neil Solondz will join the Bulls radio broadcasting team for the 2004 season. Solondz will handle all Durham Bulls road games while sharing the booth with longtime Bulls announcer Steve Barnes when the team is at home.
“I’m thrilled to be part of one of the most successful franchises in Minor League Baseball. I’m looking forward to working with Steve Barnes and being a part of the Bulls’ family” he said.
Solondz, 33, broadcast all of Lakewood’s games during the organization’s first three seasons of existence. He also handled media relations for the BlueClaws, winning Media Relations Director for the South Atlantic League (Class A) in 2003. Prior to joining the BlueClaws, the New Jersey Native worked for the Quad City River Bandits (Minnesota) of the Midwest League (Class A). Along with his work in Minor League Baseball, Solondz worked for six seasons as part of the Rutgers University Radio Network (1994-1999). He was named New Jersey Sportscaster of the Year by his peers in 1998.
His accolades and experience were key factors in selecting Solondz to join the Bulls.
“Neil is an award winning broadcaster who will no doubt be an excellent addition to our broadcast team,” Durham Bulls General Manager Mike Birling said, “I know our fans will enjoy listening to his energetic broadcasting style.”
The 2004 season begins on Thursday, April 8th with the Bulls visiting the Toledo Mudhens. The two teams come to Durham for the Bulls home opener on Wednesday, April 14th at 7:00 PM. For ticket information, call the Bulls at (919) 687-6500 or order tickets online at www.durhambulls.com.
