WRAL Trafficologist to Emcee Field of Dreams |
WRAL-TV Reporter & Trafficologist Mark Roberts has been tapped to emcee the 3rd Annual Field of Dreams Gala on Saturday, January 31, 2004. The event, presented by the Catfish Hunter Chapter of the ALS Association, will raise funds to help fight and find a cure for ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The gala includes a reception, silent auction and then a dinner program at which The Lou Gehrig/Jim “Catfish” Hunter Humanitarian Award will be presented. Helen Hunter, widow of legendary baseball player Jim “Catfish” Hunter, and former Tarheel Basketball Coach Dean Smith are co-chairing the event.
Other special guests for the evening include Gaylord Perry, member of the Baseball Hall of Fame; Tommy John, former NY Yankee pitcher; Clyde King, former Yankees, Giants, and Braves manager; Jeff Idelson, vice president of communication and education, National Baseball Hall of Fame; and Harvie Ward, PGA golf instructor.
The 3rd Annual Field of Dreams Gala will take place at the Washington Duke Inn in Durham. Lou Gehrig’s disease, named for the famed baseball player who brought attention to ALS, is an incurable, degenerative neurological disorder. ALS results in death within a few years of onset. Gehrig died in 1941. Hall of Fame pitcher Jim “Catfish” Hunter died with ALS in 1999 at the age of 53.
Capitol Broadcasting Company & the Durham Bulls are once again sponsors of the event, and WRAL-TV has produced several public service announcements for promotion.
