First Annual Charity Auction/Telethon A Success |
The Pelicans helped raise over $2,800 for the Children’s Miracle Network with a silent auction. |
On May 31, 2003, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans hosted the first annual Children’s Miracle Network auction and telethon at Coastal Federal Field, raising over $2,800 for the worthy charity. Local television station WBTW joined the team as a co-sponsor and the successful event was televised during the Pelicans – Frederick Keys game. Baseball action and auction items were featured in live broadcasts during the CBS national telethon, during the fifteen-minute local intervals during each hour.
Fans attending the game along with viewers at home were allowed to bid on such valuable baseball memorabilia as a signed Nolan Ryan Jersey, an autographed Team USA card set and an authentic homeplate signed by the home team. Featuring over twenty baseball collectibles, the auction and telethon is slated to be an annual event at Coastal Federal Field. The Durham Bulls donated a Clay Aiken autographed baseball that brought in $380.
