WRAL-TV & NCNN Bring Home Awards from the Electronic News Association of the Carolinas |
The Electronic News Association of the Carolinas recently announced the winners of its 2002 Television and Radio Awards. Formerly the Radio and Television News Directors Association of the Carolinas, the ENAC presented awards to both the North Carolina News Network and WRAL-TV.
WRAL-TV brought home honors for:
- General News: 1st Place for the story “Pentagon Heroes.”
- Sports Special: 1st Place for the “Duke v Arizona” pre-game special.
- Public Affairs: Silver Award for “30 Minutes – Cancer”
- Health-Medical: Silver Award for “Camille Yorkey”
- NC Reporter of the Year: Silver Award for Scott Mason
The North Carolina News Network received five awards from the ENAC:
- Sports Play-by-Play: Gold Award for Former Sports Director Rick Dayton’s Play-by-Play for the Duke Radio Network
- Sports: Silver Award
- Consumer/Economic: Silver Award for Matt Willoughby’s story “Payday Lending”
- Special Report: Silver Award for Matt Willoughby’s “Helms Announcement”
- Political Coverage/General: Silver Award for “State Budget Woes”
The awards banquet took place on Saturday, June 29, 2002, in Wilmington. WRAL-TV News Director John Harris completed his year as President of the organization at the event.
