Pelicans Win 2002 Home Opener |

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans took to the field for the first time at home on Friday, April 12, 2002, and put a mark in the win column. With a new skipper, Randy Ingle, the Pelicans took the Frederick Keys 4-1 in the opening night victory at Coastal Federal Field.
The Pelicans’ pitching proved a lethal weapon with starting pitcher Chris Waters only allowing four hits and one run over seven innings. Relief pitchers Josh Tillery and Kevin Barry allowed no runs in the eight and ninth innings, respectively.
“The place tonight, it was electrifying,” said Ingle. “A packed house, the pregame ceremonies. …Even after the game, it was still loud. A beautiful night and a victory in our opener-what else can you ask for?” The Pelicans received a standing ovation from the sell-out crowd of 5,062 upon taking the field. As of Sunday, April 14, the Pelicans were 4-5 for the season.
The next homestand continues with a series against the Winston-Salem Warthogs through Thursday night.
