CBC Radio Personalities Cover Olympics From Utah |
WRAL-FM Music Director Jim Kelly and NCNN Sports Director Rick Dayton traveled to Park City, Utah, to cover the Olympics for CBC live and in person. The two took in a variety of events and even tried their hand at a few Olympics sports themselves. They met several past Olympian medallists and interviewed them for the folks back in the Triangle.
Kelly and Dayton phoned in live each day for updates on MIX 101.5 and the North Carolina News Network. Dayton also kept an online journal that he shared with listeners through NCNN’s website and called in to NCNN affiliates for Q&A sessions.
The duo left Raleigh on Wednesday, February 13, and returned the following Monday. They watched the infamous USA Women’s Hockey Team thrashing of China, 12-0, saw the German men play the Canadians, and took in the two-man bobsled and ice dancing.
Dayton said, “I didn’t know what to expect when it came to covering the Olympic Games. I’ve covered so many other sports and events in my career, but this one is truly unique. Days like today make all the long hours well worth the effort. It reminded me (once again) how lucky I am to have a job I love.”
