Pelicans Announce Coaching Staff for 2002 |
The Atlanta Braves organization recently announced the coaching staff for the 2002 season of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The Pelicans will welcome a new Manager, Randy Ingle, and Hitting Coach, Jack Maloof. Myrtle Beach Pitching Coach Bruce Dal Canton and Athletic Trainer Mike Graus will return for their 4th season with the team.

Ingle replaces Brian Snitker as Manager of the Pelicans; Snitker will manage the Greenville Braves. The 2002 season will be Ingle’s 23rd with the Braves organization, his 11th as manager in Braves’ minor league system. Ingle previously managed the Richmond Braves and the Greenville Braves, leading the Greenville club to the 1997 Southern League Championship. He won Southern League Manager of the Year that same season. He is a two-time Manager of the Year (1996 & 1997) for the Braves Minor League System.
Ingle managed another CBC affiliated team, the Durham Bulls, in 1996 when they were part of the Carolina League. He led that team to a 76-33 record, winning the first half of the season with a 38-31 record.
In Ingle’s playing years, he served an an infielder in the Braves system, beginning his professional career as the Braves’ 13th selection in June 1979 amateur draft out of Appalachian State University. He retired from play and began coaching in 1987.

Pitching Coach Bruce Dal Canton enters his 20th season as a pitching coach within the Braves organization. His Myrtle Beach teams won the Earned Run Average (ERA) title two out of the last three seasons. He has served as pitching coordinator and pitching coach in the Braves system from Single-A to Major League level, arriving at Myrtle Beach in 1999. Dal Canton pitched himself for 11 years, beginning in 1967, with a record of 51-49, 19 saves and 3.67 ERA in 316 games (83 starts). He pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Kansas City Royals, the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago White Sox.
Hitting Coach Jack Maloof’s first season with the Pelicans will also be his first with the Braves organization. He spent his last three seasons as Major League hitting coach for the Florida Marlins. He served as the Marlin’s Roving Hitting Coordinator from 1993-1998, and the 12 previous years with the San Diego Padres organization. Maloof was selected in 27th round of 1971 amateur draft by Minnesota and played eight minor league seasons at first base with Twins, Reds and Padres farm teams. He replaces Tommy Gregg who will serve as hitting coach for Memphis Redbirds, Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals in the Pacific Coast League.
Graus will return for a fourth season with the Pelicans as Athletic Trainer. 2002 marks his 10th season in the Braves organization. He previously worked with minor leagues in Macon (GA), Eugene (OR), Danville (VA) and Idaho Falls (ID). Graus earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education with a major in athletic training from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1991, and a Master of Arts degree in education with a major in physiology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 1998.
