Light Up Durham To Celebrate Unity
CBC and several of its entities will once again serve as sponsors for the Durham’s premiere holiday event, Light Up Durham. The holiday festival will take over the Bull City on Saturday, December 1, in a daylong celebration.

With a theme of “Together We Grow Stronger,” the 2001 Light Up Durham celebration will be dedicated to the Public Safety and Emergency Services Personnel who work in the City of Durham and Durham County. The events of the day include performances in five downtown Durham locations, “Talent All Over Town,” beginning at 11:00am. Then a Pre-Parade Jam will take place at the Civic Center Plaza |
beginning at 2:00 pm, followed by the Holiday Parade at 3:00pm.
The celebration will end with the traditional Grande Finale at the historic Durham Athletic Park, complete with live performances by The African American Dance Ensemble, Durham Youth Orchestra, The Durham Police Department Choir, and several other groups. The 4:30-6:00pm finale will conclude with a fireworks extravaganza.
Light Up Durham is free and open to the public. Sponsors include Capitol Broadcasting Company, the Durham Bulls, FOX50, MIX 101.5/WRAL-FM and WRAL-TV. FOX50 will also air a one-hour parade special created from the event on Saturday, December 8, at 3:00pm and again on December 25, at a time yet to be announced.
